On Monday, the White House expressed deep concern over the latest developments in Myanmar.

“The U.S. is deeply concerned by reports that the Burmese military has taken steps to undermine the country’s democratic transition, including the arrest of State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi and other civilian officials in Burma,” White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in a statement.

She added that US President Joe Biden has been briefed by National Security Advisor Jake Sullivanon on these developments.

“The U.S. opposes any attempt to change the results of the recent elections or impede the democratic transition in Myanmar, and it will take action against that responsible if these steps are not reversed,” the statement added.

The head of Myanmar’s military has taken charge of the country from its civilian-run government, an army-run television station declared, after civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi and other members of her party were detained in a Monday morning raid, according to Wall Street Journal.
