On Tuesday, the Indian government announced that eight Asiatic lions contracted COVID-19 in one of the national zoos.

The government pointed out that there is no evidence of the possibility of virus transmission from animal to human.

The authorities of South Hyderabad state exchanged samples with a national research center on March 24 after observing the Zoo’s lions suffered from breathing difficulties.

Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change said: “Based on experience with zoo animals elsewhere in the world that have experienced SARS-COV2 positive last year, there is no factual evidence that animals can transmit the disease to humans any further.”

India is still suffering from a worsening pandemic situation after a fierce mutated form of the Coronavirus emerged in the state.

The total number of infections in the state surpassed 20 million infections, naming the state as the second state in the world with the largest number of infections.
